Our Immigration Division responds to the needs of our clients in the State of Florida and in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico who are engaged in international business, trade and investment (education, construction, restaurants, and transportation, among others). These clients often seek to transfer foreign born executives and managers to their operations in the United States. At times, they seek to employ foreign professionals for special projects of a temporary nature in this country.

We have obtained treaty trader and treaty investor status for many foreign nationals who have chosen to engage in substantial trade and commerce With the United States and/or to invest significant amounts of money in Florida or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. We have been successful in achieving U. S. permanent resident status for prominent South American and European business persons based on their individual investments in U. S. based enterprises that create employment opportunities for S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.

We provide legal advice to our corporate clients with respect to their recordkeeping responsibilities under the Immigration and Nationality Act of the United States (“INA”), as they relate to U. S. and foreign workers. We have also defended our corporate clients against administrative assessments and other penalties threatened by the Immigration and Nationality Service (“INS”) for alleged paper-work Violations of the INA.

Moreover, we have successfully litigated several cases of significance against the INS through the federal courts of the United States, resulting in U. S. immigration benefits for the professionals, executives and/or managers of the multinational business we represent.

In addition, we process family-based immigration petitions for individual clients, as well as applications for U. S. citizenship.

Attorney Patrick D. O’Neill directs our Immigration Division. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Puerto Rico Law School, where he in charge of the Legal Aid Clinic in the area of Immigration Law.

During 22 years he collaborated with Attorney Dominic T. Longo, the former District Director of the INS for Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands.
